CT: Hi Morgan, thanks for having me here.
Morgzz: Cassie, the pleasure is all mine. So, today we are going to talk about yoga. Courtney Oliver hosts a wonderful yoga class at Evergreen studio on Monday nights and we were talking about going together in the next week or so. However, while discussing this particular topic, you admitted your hesitancy about the exercise. So... come on, out with it, what's the deal with you and yoga?
CT: Well, if I want to close my eyes and get some relaxation in, you know - I've got a bed. That I've actually already paid a one time fee for. I even have pillows and sometimes I wash the sheets. So that's the means to relax as much as I could possibly ever want to meditate.
Morgzz: But what about the workout portion?
CT: If I want to work out - I can jump around. I can take a loop around the block. I could flip over the back of my couch... and land on the other side of it. Air guitaring is really good on the triceps and the biceps if you switch arms. And these are just a few of the hard core things that I think that working out should be like.
Morgzz: So basically what you are saying is that yoga does not have the injury capability for which you are aiming?
CT: No, no. There's just not enough fun.
Morgzz: What if there were party balloons at your yoga studio that you might be able to run around and pop?
CT: Yeah, I mean - if I won a prize for doing yoga... like, if the person who looks the most relaxed and peaceful gets a door prize, then yeah - I would freaking do that.
Morgzz: So, hypothetically, what would your perfect yoga class begin with?
CT: Like normal places, it would begin with a soup and salad. Or at least an appetizer. Seriously though, I would like to feel like I at least earned my cool down. And that's my major, serious problem with it. I just don't understand how we are already on the cool down when there was no warm up. I feel like we are all sitting around wondering when things will get intense and in the meantime just being excited that we get to wear yoga pants. And I wear yoga pants in real life. Like right now, here at Swanky's.
Morgzz: This brings up an interesting point. Do you feel like you have actually earned the right to wear yoga pants since you do not practice nor support yoga fans?
CT: Yes because I do stretches in public sometimes. I will put my leg up on a bench or chair just to show flexibility and thus assert my dominance on a room.
Morgzz: So summing up...
CT: I just don't feel like I get anything out of it. I don't feel like I do after running or jumping rope. At the end of it I feel like that's when the yoga should come in. Yoga seems like a Part Two of a Part One.
Morgzz: Okay, Cassie, seriously - how are you in such good shape, really? Because I don't think anybody's buying your workout plan of jumping over couches and air guitaring.
CT: I actually jump rope a lot.
Morgzz: Yes, actually you have been critically acclaimed in The Commercial Appeal (click here to read) for your jump roping skills as Brooke Windham in Legally Blonde. So how long have you been jump roping?
CT: Since I was in 2nd grade-ish.
Morgzz: Ah. Did you have any friends?
CT: No. My mom wouldn't let me wear any of the Limited Too clothes. She kept me in Gap Kids too long. With all that free time, I had two choices. I could either run away from home and join a gang, or pick up that jump rope and overcome.
Morgzz: What does your jump rope routine entail?
CT: It's actually a lot like sprinting. But you should build up to it. Like hardcore for 2 minutes, then slower for 2 minutes sort of thing. It's like interval training. You could do it for 10 minutes a day to start off. This just fits my personality better.
Morgzz: Great. Well this pretty much just sums up why some work outs are better for certain people than others.
So for those of us who disagree with this sentiment and love a good yoga workout, check out Courtney Oliver's class - every Monday at 5pm, $15 at Evergreen. She knows how to yoga. Girl's been on real deal retreats and stuff. We will see if we can get Cassie on board once she actually gives the exercise a fair shot. If anyone can turn her to a yoga-fan, it's Courtney.
If you agree with Crazy Cassie's sentiment and need a good jump roping or air guitaring workout before you can commit to a yoga workout, check out the clip below for your own at-home version of her probable work-out plan for tomorrow afternoon.
Toodles,
- CT & Morgzz
